Not able to Uninstall Windows Live Messenger

I am trying to delete Windows Live Messenger.
I have turned it off repeatedly, but it goes back on every time an update is installed.
When I go to the "Uninstall" list, there are no checkboxes and it won't uninstall anything.
What do I do?
